I would like to thank the good folks at Norwich University in Norwich, Norfolk, East Anglia, England (United Kingdom) for their interest in my site and for being the 300th City outside the US to visit me. They ran a tight race with Cesis, Latvia coming in closely at 301. I must apologize for my ignorance in advance.
Even though in my university days I studied English History, I have to admit I had to Google Earth to see where Norfolk is. I was disappointed to find that it is north of where many of my ancestors came from: Colchester, 1511; Maldon, 1364; Chelmsford, 1442; Hertford, 1555; and more, mostly from Essex and Kent. At least, if you have any faith in Ancestry.com.
I just finished a great book called: “Agincourt, the Battle that Made England”. The Duke of Norfolk was mentioned many times in relation to Henry V’s preparations for and completion of the 1415 Campaign.
Looking at the map, I assume the summer’s to be cool and breezy with the winters getting downright cold and blustery. With the nearby Broads, I would think it would be damp all year with the major wind direction coming off the North Sea. So, with that in mind, my sorely incomplete knowledge of the area would lead me to believe that there is a plethora of local pubs and small eateries where folks of all ages gather to socialize when the BBC is at a low point in entertainment. At least, that is what I do when I visit the Oregon Coast, which is usually, damp, cold, and blustery. BTW, many of us here love the BBC mystery programs and many of the sitcoms. They seem to have a higher mental level of writing.
Okay, so I’ve probably made a fool of myself rambling on here. I had promised myself to post all I knew about the 300th city, but was at a loss with Norfolk. I now realize that recognition of a place-name doesn’t mean diddly-squat when it comes down to really knowing anything.
Thanks, again, Norwich, Univ, and the town of Norfolk. You have reached out and plonked me on the head. I will be reading more about you. I would appreciate it if you would leave comments with more information on your city and univeristy.
